Moon mysteries and power

Cycles of the moon have long been known to affect all living things.

Since the early days, humans have worshipped the moon because it is said to guide our lives and well-being.

Apart from its tidal pull, the Earth’s satellite has been acknowledged to influence emotions, moods and even the mind.

In astrology, the moon’s cycle can sway how we feel, rocking our emotions and behaviour.

According to research, we become more sensitive to details during a full moon, and a new moon brings a sense of calm and grounding.

Cops all over the world know that crime and accident rates increase during full moon phases and that unusual behaviour is also more common at these times.

A full moon cycle takes 14 days, and it appears 24 times in a full lunar year, which is slightly shorter than the calendar year.

A person who is in tune with this cycle will supposedly enjoy good relationships, fame and honour.

And, by the way, despite the increase in crime and accident rates during a full moon, it is definitely incorrect to say that the full moon is inauspicious, says Vasthu Sastra.

You just need to tune in to the moon’s cycles.

Moon phases

● New moon (also called the Dark Moon) – not visible Waxing Crescent

First Quarter – commonly called a half moon

● Waxing Gibbous

● Full Moon (we can see the entire illuminated portion of the moon)

● Waning Gibbous

● Third Quarter – half moon, but the illuminated part is opposite of the first quarter

● Waning Crescent

● New Moon – back to the beginning

Tips

The waxing stage, when the moon is growing larger, is the best time to burn candles as this is a period of growth, when wishes can be fulfilled.

You can benefit from the energy of a waxing moon by burning a dark green candle to strengthen your financial standing.

Another activity is as soon as you sight the new moon, jingle some coins in your pocket to increase wealth.

Try to sight the moon on the third day of the waxing stage because it is likely to bring luck and unexpected windfall.

For this to happen, you will have to do the moon sighting ritual on that day every month for six months.

It is also auspicious to sight the full moon and show appreciation.

Avoid all major money-related activities and investments like property and purchase of vehicle in the waning stage of the moon.

It is also auspicious to sight the full moon. The best time to do so is between 6.30pm and 7pm.

Paying respect to the moon in this way during this period improves eyesight and is calming.

Another recommended ritual to perform during this time is to offer a young coconut at the grave or a photograph of a departed saint; this will provide protection and spiritual enlightenment.

The moon must not be sighted on the second and fourth days during its waning; this would be inauspicious and could cause hardship.

During the moon’s period of waning, which is also an inauspicious time, burn black candles to remove negative forces and the possibility of illness.
